Understanding Stretch Marks
Stretch marks, also called striae, develop when the skin stretches or changes rapidly and collagen and elastin fibres are disrupted. They commonly occur during pregnancy, growth, weight change or muscle development. Their colour and texture change over time. Fractional resurfacing may improve selected stretch marks by stimulating collagen remodelling, but complete removal cannot be guaranteed.
Why Do Stretch Marks Develop?
Stretch marks may be associated with pregnancy, puberty, rapid weight change, muscle growth, hormonal factors, genetics or corticosteroid exposure. Newer marks are often red or purple, while older marks typically become pale or silvery.
Nordlys® FRAX 1550 Skin Resurfacing
Treatment may be suitable for adults with stable stretch marks who want to improve texture and visibility. Suitability depends on the age, colour, depth and location of the marks, skin type and medical history.

Benefits
May improve the texture of selected stretch marks; stimulates collagen remodelling; can be used on suitable body areas; non-ablative fractional approach; personalised course based on the age and appearance of the marks.
Recovery & Downtime
Temporary redness, warmth, mild swelling, dryness or a rough texture can occur. Recovery varies depending on the body area and treatment intensity. Sun protection is important when the treated area is exposed.
Treatment Process
After assessment, the area is prepared and comfort measures are used as appropriate. The FRAX handpiece delivers fractional energy over the stretch marks. Cooling and aftercare advice are provided.
Results
Improvement develops gradually as collagen remodels. A course of treatments is usually recommended. Stretch marks can become softer and less visible, but complete removal is not expected.

Laser resurfacing may improve their texture and visibility, but it cannot guarantee complete removal.
Older pale stretch marks may still improve, although their response can differ from newer red or purple marks. Assessment helps establish realistic expectations.
A course is commonly recommended. The number depends on the age, depth, location and response of the stretch marks.
Suitable abdominal stretch marks may be treated after assessment. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, recent surgery or other medical factors may affect timing.
Results develop over weeks and months as collagen remodelling continues. Improvement is gradual rather than immediate.
