Understanding Vascular Lesions

Vascular lesions are visible blood vessels or areas of vascular colour that may appear red, purple or blue. Examples include facial telangiectasias, thread veins, venous lakes and selected leg vessels. The most appropriate treatment depends on the vessel’s diameter, depth, colour and location, as well as the patient’s skin type and medical history.

Why Do Visible Vessels Develop?

Visible vessels can be associated with genetics, sun exposure, ageing, rosacea, hormonal changes, injury or increased pressure within superficial vessels. Some vascular marks are present from birth, while others develop over time.

Nordlys® Nd:YAG 1064 or SWT® IPL

Treatment may be suitable for adults with selected facial telangiectasias, thread veins, venous lakes or leg vessels. A professional assessment is required because not every vascular lesion is appropriate for cosmetic laser treatment.

Benefits

Targets selected visible vessels with precision; suitable technologies for different vessel depths and sizes; may reduce facial thread veins and selected vascular lesions; treatment settings are tailored to skin type and vessel characteristics; can improve overall skin clarity.

Recovery & Downtime

Temporary redness, swelling, bruising or darkening of the vessel may occur. Some vessels fade gradually over several weeks. Recovery varies by vessel size, location and treatment intensity.

Treatment Process

The lesion is examined before treatment to identify the vessel type and suitable technology. Protective eyewear is provided, and controlled pulses are delivered along the vessel or treatment area. Cooling and aftercare instructions follow.

Results

Some vessels respond after one session, while larger, deeper or multiple vessels may require additional treatments. New vessels can develop over time, and results vary.

What vascular lesions can Nordlys® treat?

Is IPL or Nd:YAG better for visible vessels?

Will the vessel disappear immediately?

Can leg veins be treated at the clinic?

Depending on the applicator and assessment, Nordlys® may be used for selected facial telangiectasias, thread veins, venous lakes, port-wine stains and leg vessels.

IPL is often selected for diffuse redness and superficial vessels, while Nd:YAG may be suitable for deeper or larger vessels. The decision is made after assessment.

Some vessels change immediately, while others darken and fade gradually over the following weeks. More than one treatment may be needed.

Successfully treated vessels may remain reduced, but new vessels can form due to ageing, sun exposure, genetics or underlying conditions.

Selected small leg vessels may be suitable for Nd:YAG treatment. Larger or medically significant veins may require assessment by a vascular specialist.
